ashbury bart flea market

this flea market was so fun. so many different things to look at and different people to study. little trinkets, hats, african masks, clothes, shoes, earings, stones, basketball cards, porn, obama shirts, soaps. i spent so long touching and picking up everything for a closer look-

their was a very large amount of people sitting under the bart station outside playing instruments- symbols, saxaphones, wooden drums etc. the people were all playing at different times to different beats, banging and whistling. i loved it-

i found her sitting on a street alone waiting for someone to come along for a potrait but it looked like she'd just been sitting in the same spot the whole day, trailing off into her own world. she had an incredible portrait of herself as a sample of her work. after looking at her drawing for a couple of minutes and then convincing her to make it ten dollars not twenty, she drew me-

YAY HAPPPY ZOO DAY! i was so excited to go to the zoo today and see all the cutie little animals. about 5 minutes in to my lovely zoo day i realised that the zoo is actually kinda boring especially when your alone. who are you supposed to turn to and be all like 'look at the cutie little penguins, awww they re so cute'? NO ONE thats who. stuck in a place completely surrounded by animals you dont really care about/have seen before and people who are excited to see kangaroos, o and of course ASIANS. i saw a polar bear for the first time though and the trees and plants were really pretty to look at. blai blai blai-

the california academy of science part two

since we were very very late to free day at the california academy of science last time we waited till next free day to go see the rainforest section. it was definately worth the wait. its incredible how much the inside looks like a rainforest with all the trees and vines and fish etc- frogs, catfish, iguanas, SNAKES,pretty butterflies, eels, birds that are heaps colourful and pretty much scary becuase they are so fast and make sudden movements (as my lovely girlfriends would know i dont like things that make sudden movements they scare me eg. moths, cockroaches, frogs, lizards.) annnnnnnnnyway here are some photos my dears-

i was walking along mission on the way home when i saw this and threw everything down to get my camera out and capture it. i succeeded-

still walking along mission on the way home i could here bagpipes really close and remembered today was St Patricks day. i couldnt figure out where the bagpipes were coming from. i walked into a back street in search of mr man and his bagpipes and there in an alley alone was this man dressed in a complete irish outfit playing. i was amazed-

haight- the home of the homeless hippie and other people and events you only dream of walking by. that dream has come true for me, im not sure about the rest of you reading. this street is a place i really wish i could spend alot of my life and i know people like amy-lee elsie kaka, cari mckee lewis and persia bahmani share this love and wish upon a star too. the houses are gorgeous. colourful with touches of wicked little details you have to stare to see. people sit on the side of the road with their puppies playing instruments and singing. walked past a guy wearing all denim but obviously on haight you can pull anything off. the smell of pot is permanent. a couple of weeks ago i was on haight and i walked past a dude with a sign that was just a marijuana leaf drawn on a little square piece of cardboard. he was holding it up and smiling with his red eyes, 'you got any green?' was what he said to me as i walked past. its so hard to make you understand how overly cool/perfect this one street is. i love it. these pictures arent the half of it-

today was my first real 'hey guys im a tourist day' met some lovely ladies who told me a few places they thought id like. went to see grace cathedral and some of the other beautiful buildings on California.

this was so cooooooool. it seems like st patricks day here is much bigger than australia (obviously). it was lovely fun to watch all the drunken people and catch the beads and lollies being thrown from the floats. gO IrIsH - g0 AiSlInG!!!!!!

this was on the way to down town oakland and as much as i cant be bothered getting into this conversation because it is insanely hard to explain in detail how crazy/ colourful/ EVEN THE INTERIOR this car was, i have to because i dont think any of you would have seen something like it. it would be selfish of me to keep it myself.

i left them a note on their window telling them i saw and loved their car.

went into down town oakland. first went to the amazing wall which i had seen before when i was passing in a bus and new i had to go back to admire. its under a bridge just a little walk from down town oakland. the wall is worn and the paint has faded. i think it would have never looked better.

walked to lake merrit. the sun was kinda setting/late late afternoon so it looked really pretty. the clouds were all fluffy. tall lamp/lanterns were evenly spread around the edge of the lake and fairy lights strung from lantern to lantern. pidgeons were resting on the fairy lights.

went into china town today and it was fantastic. my mind was going crazy. so many things to look at and touch. meat shops had whole ducks, chickens hanging in the the windows with eel and fish sitting in trays underneath them. the fruit markets were similar with their bananas, grapes, oranges, mandarins hanging from the roof by string. went into a shop that i will always remember. packed to the ceiling of just stuff. so many little bits and pieces. teapots, coathangers, china, mugs, bowls, bags, lights, ladders, budhas, those cats with the waving hands. china town lead into little italy which was the cutest little community place. i saw a shrivelled little old man drinking coffee in a pastry cafe. he was gorgeous. finished off my first day in china town by eating some good chinese food.

started at the Bay Bridge and ended up at pier 39/fishermans wharf. Along the way saw some bums/homeless people (obviously), a steel skull of a something something ancient something something, a huge bow and arrow stuck in some grass, boys doing cool stuff on their bikes and MUCH MUCH MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! got a cool portrait from some street artist guy but obviously not going to show my loves till i get home. their was a bum/homeless guy at fishermans wharf who had collected heaps of branches and leaves etc and made them into to bunches. he was hiding behind them next to a bin and jumping out and scaring the crap out of people that walked past. its cool when the bums/homeless people still have real imaginations.

if you dont already know san francisco is a very hilly kinda city so whenever i am anywhere their are always hills behind the buildings covered in pretty far off houses, mist and low cloud. the pittsburg/baypoint train took me into them and assured me that the hills look just as amazingly beautiful close up as they do far away.

very interesting day. we turned up at 2460 Sutter Street thinking this would be a pretty cool festival to snoop around at. got my stamp for the festival on the palm of my hand, marcels on his knuckle by the russian 'security' dude for the day. the festival was in the three story Russian center of San Francisco. their was much food which was all quite strange looking to me but as i think we all know the weirdest looking food is usually the tastiest. free vodka shots but being 19 none for me. at 3:30 we watched some russian dancing which was pretty cool to see. how are russian men able to do that dance where they squat and throw their knees out straight very fast one leg at a time? it amazes me! we left pretty much straight after that. kinda dissapointing festival but at the same time what do you expect to see at a russian festival? the rest of the day was spent walking through SF city- never gets boring.

this place was so cool! like a zoo/science lab/museum/lots of other things im just not smart. once a month on a wednesday is a free entry day so obviously we went on this day. we got there a bit late so we didnt get to go everywhere but what we saw was still fantabulous.

Marcels old neighbourhood OAKLAND is probably the roughest ive seen so far. graffiti and closed down places and stores as well as just alot of buildings and houses looking very worn and tired.

it is insanely hard trying to explain in words how fabulous and incredible this place is. one of my favourite things is just walking the streets because they are so different. the trees, the people, the pigeons, stalls on the sides of the path, huge buildings, sculptures, buskers, shoe shiners, stores of anything and everything, little dogs, strange bums/homeless people, and black women being all sassy and proud.

so a seven hour stop over was included in the flight plan here. i stopped in HONG KONG (dont you just love saying it) i was waaaay too scared to leave the airport because it being my first flight and all so i spent my time eating a huge meal and walking around being amazed by the difference of things.
